Earlscliffe is a proud to be an institutional partner with the Professionals in Education (“the PIE“), and attended the PIE Live industry event in central London this week to learn the latest about the international student journey.
The PIE is a leading resource for worldwide schools, colleges, and universities that work with international students. By analysing global educational, political, and economic trends, PIE provides valuable insights and expert analysis to its network.
This week’s PIE Live featured roundtable discussions on key topics, from UK policy updates to how schools and sixth forms can better support students in their transition to university.
A key takeaway from these discussions was the power of effective communication.
Danlu Liu from Edukatus emphasised, “Schools should ensure that communication channels remain open. International students often struggle to express themselves in a second language, and without the right support, they may withdraw. Additionally, if a school does not provide regular, transparent communication with families, parental anxiety can negatively impact the student’s experience.”
She also highlighted the importance of helping families understand that ““the best” school or university is not always the highest-ranked one. A truly supportive educational environment offers more than academics – it includes wellbeing services, pastoral care, and skills development, all of which are crucial to student success. Education must be tailored to the individual.”
Oliver Rodriguez from The Lemon Tree agreed, saying, “It is essential to focus on who the student is, not just what their family hopes they will achieve. Every student has unique academic abilities, English proficiency, and levels of maturity. Discussing the challenges of an international move early on helps them feel prepared. A positive, happy experience ultimately enhances classroom learning.”
He continued, “We should help students explore their purpose and equip them with the skills they need to thrive in a global world.”
At Earlscliffe, this student-centred approach is at the heart of what we do. Each student is assigned a Senior Tutor who supports their academic and personal development, ensuring a 360-degree approach to their wellbeing. Senior Tutors maintain open lines of communication with parents, guardians, and Educational Consultants, uniting all key stakeholders in the student’s journey.
As Oliver pointed out, “Clarity of communication isn’t just about choosing the right words – it’s about understanding how those words are perceived, depending on language and cultural background.”
That’s why our Senior Tutors take the time to build trusting, meaningful relationships that foster student success.
Beyond academics, we believe in a well-rounded education enriched with sports, creative and business experiences through our Advanced Skills Academies, as well as qualifications in Public Speaking and Leadership.
