In the spirit of National Careers Week, Earlscliffe is reflecting on the many ways we prepare students not only for university entry, but for long-term academic and professional success.
We were delighted to welcome Positively You to Earlscliffe for a series of tailored workshops designed to strengthen students’ academic confidence, wellbeing and independent study skills across multiple year groups. These sessions form part of our wider Careers Institute programme, which supports our international students in securing places at leading universities in the UK and abroad.
Year 13: Exam Mastery
For our Year 13 students, the focus was Exam Mastery, a timely and practical session aimed at maximising performance ahead of final examinations.
The workshop introduced evidence-based techniques to help students manage pressure and refine their revision strategies, including:
- Memory training strategies to improve long-term retention
- Breathing and regulation exercises to manage exam anxiety
- Guidance on using Cornell Notes effectively for structured revision
- Practical advice on weekly planning and time management
- Targeted revision techniques designed to move beyond passive reading
At this crucial stage of the academic year, students found the session particularly valuable. By adopting structured revision approaches and anxiety-management strategies, they are better equipped to approach their exams with confidence and clarity.
Year 11 and Year 12: Motivation and Study Strategy
Students in Year 11 and Year 12 participated in workshops centred on motivation, balance and effective study habits, essential foundations for long-term academic success.
The sessions explored:
- How to maintain motivation over time
- Strategies for achieving a healthy work/life balance
- Study methods tailored to different learning preferences
- The 5R’s of note-taking as a structured framework for processing information
- The use of tools such as analysis grids to deepen understanding and develop exam-ready responses
Students were encouraged to reflect on their current study routines and identify small, manageable adjustments that could significantly enhance both productivity and wellbeing.
Supporting Future Success Through the Careers Institute

Workshops such as these ensure that students are not only academically capable, but also resilient, self-aware and equipped with practical strategies to thrive in competitive higher education environments.
As National Careers Week highlights the importance of planning for the future, these sessions serve as a reminder that success begins with strong habits, effective study strategies and the confidence to perform under pressure. At Earlscliffe, we are proud to support our students every step of the way.
