Earlscliffe Celebrates Hungarian Day

Posted: 24th March 2026

Earlscliffe recently came alive with the sights, sounds, and flavours of Hungary as students hosted a vibrant and memorable Hungarian Day.

Organised by Hungarian students and supported by their friends, the event was a wonderful showcase of culture, collaboration, and community spirit.

Hungarian Day is a celebration of Hungary’s rich cultural heritage, often marked by traditional food, music, and shared customs. It also connects to one of Hungary’s most important national commemorations on 15 March, which marks the 1848 Revolution and the country’s fight for independence from Habsburg rule. Led by figures such as the poet Sándor Petőfi, the movement called for national sovereignty, democratic rights, and cultural identity.

Taking over the kitchen for the day, students prepared an impressive menu of authentic Hungarian dishes, including chicken paprikash, sarmale, lángos, nokedli, lecsó, rizi bizi, and plum dumplings for dessert. The experience offered everyone a genuine taste of Hungary, with many trying these dishes for the first time.

The event was about much more than food though.

It reflected the diverse and inclusive nature of the Earlscliffe community, where students from around the world are encouraged to share their cultures and learn from one another. By empowering students to suggest and organise events like Hungarian Day, Earlscliffe fosters confidence, creativity, and a strong sense of belonging.

Events like this not only create lasting memories but also deepen understanding and appreciation of the many nationalities represented within the school.

Hungarian Day is just one example of how Earlscliffe celebrates its international identity.

We are proud to be a global community where diversity is not only welcomed but actively celebrated. Through student-led initiatives and cultural events, we continue to build connections, broaden perspectives, and create a truly enriching educational experience for all.
