Earlscliffe is proud to have been recognised with the Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA) Award for Supporting International Boarders – a prestigious accolade that highlights our commitment to creating an inclusive, caring, and supportive environment for students from around the world.
The award, announced at the BSA Annual Conference Gala, paid special tribute to the outstanding work of our on-site School Nurse, Maria, who plays a vital role in the wellbeing of our international student community. A qualified medical practitioner and certified mental health professional, Nurse Maria brings a holistic and proactive approach to student care. She supports not only physical health but also emotional and cultural adjustment.
At Earlscliffe, the health and wellbeing of our students are central to school life. Our entire Boarding and Pastoral Care team works closely together to ensure that every student feels safe, respected, and valued. We recognise that international students often face complex challenges, from homesickness and culture shock to navigating unfamiliar healthcare or banking systems. Our support is tailored to meet these needs with empathy, expertise, and consistency.
Just one example of this approach can be seen is in Nurse Maria’s involvement with the Earlscliffe football team (which secured a historic league victory in its debut season). Her work in injury prevention, recovery strategies, nutrition, and hydration planning played a critical role in enabling players to perform at their best – both physically and mentally.
Another example of inclusive care was the support provided to students observing Ramadan. Nurse, House Parents and catering staff worked collaboratively to create a thoughtful, nutritious meal plan that honoured students’ faith while supporting their health and academic performance during the fasting period.
The BSA Award is a testament to the dedication of the entire Earlscliffe team, whose shared mission is to ensure that every student thrives in our home-from-home British boarding environment. Guided by our core values – Community, Aspiration, Respect, Curiosity, and Personal Development – we are committed to nurturing each student’s growth, confidence, and success.
At Earlscliffe, wellbeing is not an afterthought. It is the foundation of everything we do.
