BOARDING Pastoral Care

Support and wellbeing

At Earlscliffe, students thrive with strong academic and emotional support. This includes close teamwork between staff, a qualified school nurse, and small classes with personalised attention.

We know that students behave better, achieve higher grades and are more engaged in school life if they are supported, not only academically, but also emotionally.

Therefore, we provide a wrap-around approach to caring for our students that includes clear communication between the boarding house staff and the teaching teams, the nurse, the special educational needs team and fully trained mental health staff.

Earlscliffe also has a Nurse, who can assess and advise on minor  injuries and ailments (i.e. coughs, colds, headaches, allergies). They can also offer psychological support and make referrals to other agencies such as the local doctor, counsellor, minor injuries unit, optician, physiotherapist and dentist.

Support for Students with Special Educational Needs.

At Earlscliffe, every student matters and we aim to ensure that every student succeeds.

Our goal is to develop independent-minded young men and women, eager to continue their studies and take their places as thoughtful citizens of the world. We believe that in the process of preparing and guiding young people towards intellectual growth, the beginning is everything. We seek to develop students’ abilities to work effectively, to communicate articulately, to approach life with a sense of competence. We are a close-knit community, working together to cultivate young minds and hearts.

We understand that every student is different, and that some students will need a little extra support to help them reach their full potential. We welcome students with Special Educational Needs, mental or physical health issues, and those for whom English is a second language.

We also have experience in educating students with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). We have well-developed monitoring systems to assess and track all students’ progress. This ensures that barriers to learning are quickly identified and minimised.

Earlscliffe has a Senco and Deputy Senco (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), who work closely with both teachers and students to plan appropriate levels of support. Please tell us your needs when you apply, so we can discuss how the college can support you.
